Tippet Rise

My family has lived in the Stillwater Valley of Montana for generations. It is beautiful country with the rugged Beartooth mountains for a backdrop. Even today with the renewed interest in Montana driven by the popularity of the show “Yellowstone” and the Pandemic, the Stillwater Valley remains largely untouched…a remote and sparsely populated ranching community. A few years ago, to my complete amazement, the Tippet Rise Art Center opened in Fishtail, one of the small towns in the valley. Created by Cathy and Peter Halstead, Tippet Rise sits on a 12,500 acre working cattle ranch and exhibits large-scale sculptures and hosts classical chamber music concerts. Inspired by the Storm King Art Center in the Hudson Valley of New York, the Halsteads have commissioned or purchased about a dozen world-class sculptures from leading artists and carefully placed them in the landscape. It is an incredible art experience to tour the center and I’m grateful for their philanthropy. I encourage everyone to experience it and and appreciate the art and the beauty of the Stillwater Valley it sits in. The pictures below are from a trip a few years ago that I made with my oldest son and a close friend.
