Neighborhood Quarantine
When the COVID quarantine started in 2020, my neighborhood went into full lockdown. Everyone retreated fearfully to their homes and for months we rarely ventured out. We were uncertain how the virus spread and most of us kept a significant distance from each other. When it became clear that we could be outside as long as we maintained that distance, we began to sit on our porches so we could greet our neighbors as they walked by on the sidewalks. I was struck by the uncertainty and fear in my neighbors faces and the feeling of isolation even as I talked to them from the safe distance of the sidewalk or street. I decided to document the experience and the impact it had on our neighborhood.
